[INDENT] I need to decide which amp I'm going to get for my sub: Alpine SWR-10D2 10" Dual 2-Ohm Type-R

It's between these:
Rockford Fosgate R1200-1D & Alpine MRX-M110 [/INDENT]

I don't have any experience with either amp, but I think both would be a good choice.

You just have 1 sub right? If so, power output seems to be about the same between both amps.

I think you would be happy with either one.

A brand I do have experience with is MMATS, I 'm very happy with my 1400.1
They cost more, but you can find their amps used every once in awhile on Ebay or in Classifieds and get a pretty nice amp for about the same price as the Fosgate or Alpine.

but like I said, it think either of the amps you listed would work great with that sub.

I'm getting another one of those subs later when my budget allows for it. Would having two make a difference then?

Yes, because they are dual 2 voice coils you'll need to find an amp that has the most power at the wiring configurations you can do.
Currently you're doing this, to give you a 1 ohm load. Both amps you listed can handle this, with the Fosgate putting out more power at this config.


If you add another sub, you have 2 choices. The first is a series/parallel type config.
This raises your load to 2ohm.


The next is wiring them all up to parallel giving you a total load of .5


I don't believe either of the amps you listed, can go down to .5.
So you would have to wire them up for 2 ohm load, according to the specs I found. The Alpine would be a better choice. Since it actually puts out more power at 2ohm then it does at 1 ohm.

Fosgate at 2ohm = 800 Watts x 1
Alpine at 2 ohm = 1,100 watts x 1

Looks like it might be good to get a second amp too

You could do that, or look for an amp that has a little more power for both subs.
Takes up less room that way.

One large amp is a lot easier to wire than two amps also. No distro blocks, no rca splitters or extra rcas, etc. Given that the sub is dual 2 ohm, the rockford would put out more power at 1 ohm. You'd have to wire the alpine to 4 ohms and not get much output. Now, if you had a pair of those subs, then the alpine would put out 1100 watts at 2 ohms where the rockford only puts out 800 at 2 ohms.
