Since the dakota averages around 15 mpg, and I have to run 93 octane (mopar performance computer), I decided it was time for a cheap daily driver that got better gas mileage... I knew I wanted a 4 door that was comfy, other than that it didn't much matter.
My uncle told me about a '96 skylark sitting at one of the local dealers for $400 - it needed a motor. I ended up buying it, and my uncle GAVE me a motor that had 80,000 miles (car has 138,xxx), and my buddy is putting it in for $100 bucks.. It's not super clean or anything special, but I shouldn't have much money into the car when I'm done. It has a epa of 17 town/27 hwy.
I haven't cleaned it up yet, so be gentle. It should clean up real nice though.

No, 3100. I'm actually swapping in a 3400 though, but keep that on the down low. shhhhh

Yeah, my thoughts as well. I had a corsica with the same motor and I averaged around 25 mpg with it, so I'm hoping I can do about the same with this car. The 3400 swap should be good for about 25 hp and 25 ft tq - so I should be able to smoke all the other skylarks and achievas of the same year!!!!!!!

All 60 degree motors are ewwie. I'm going to replace the intake gasket, which is what kills 99% of these motors. It should last a while - hopefully.

Bah, good motor- bad gaskets. The bad part is that gasket will cost you the same price as the labor you are paying to install the motor.
My 3100 Century I had would get upwards of almost 400 miles per tank. After I dropped the other motor into it and sold it to my bass 3 years ago- he still drives it daily without issue. Best $700 car ever he claims...
The Alero got around 25 mpg overall. 3400 motor.
You swapping computers too?

not swapping the computers. hoping it works OK. Before having him do the swap, I'm going to do a bunch of reading on the 60 degrees forum.
