so... jl audio 12w3v3.
just running one. ported or sealed box?
I ask because I keep seeing people say some subs work better ported and some better sealed.

The 12W3V3 has a QTS of .45 to .5 depending on model. So it isn't really "better" designed for sealed or ported.

The DD 9500 is an example of a sub thats better designed for ported. Its QTS rating is around 0.25.

The Focal KX33 is an example of a sub that does better sealed. The QTS is .73
