The thing that bothers me the most is, if he wasn't within 1000 feet of the school, they shouldn't have even had the right to search his car.
Expel is pretty ridiculous, but if he was in violation of the Gun Free School act, then that is proper punishment.

He consented to the search
I still don't see how off school property gives them any rights what so ever.

I had a rifle in my truck all hunting season long and I'd park that bitch right in student parking.
Most of my teachers were reasonable. And most were hunters, so...

Where I went to high school, I'm sure a lot of hunters kept a gun in there car. I kept mine in my trunk a lot during hunting season, not entirely sure if I expressly took it out to go to school or not.
They should not have expelled that kid. I think they barely have a legal leg to stand on, if it goes to court it will come down to interpretation of the law. Because the gun free school zone act does talk about having weapons within 1000 feet of a school.
It will depend on how far he was parked, and how the judge interprets the "personal property" part of the law.
Exception: This does not include possession of a firearm on private property that is not part of school grounds or possession of a loaded firearm by an individual who is licensed to do so by the State. (i.e. a concealed carry, weapon, or firearm permit).

If the school has a rule that states no guns within 1,000ft of their property, then he was at fault taking the guns within 1,000ft of the school.

what about people who live in that area? how is that legal? How can a school make a rule that says even out side of our property guns are illegal? Do me a favor bro move to one of those areas so i can break into your house and take your shit.

This isnt a criminal issue

Common sense tells me it's probably a rule from non-residents.
Kid's these days are p*ssies, they'll go on a shooting spree just because somebody hurt their feelings.
Guns do not belong in or around schools, there's way to many emo's and wanna be thugs.
The kid broke the rules, he shouldn't of taken his guns to/around school.
I thought you had to have the gun visible (like on a gun rack in the back window) unless you had a concealed weapons permit? That's a question and not a statement!
