no sound from head unit

Post by Tim »

Hey dudes i gotta buddy who bought my old alpine 9830. he had it installed in his integra and it worked correctly. He bought an 00 dadge dakota quad cab, that had a dual head unit in it that worked correctly.

He swapped the alpine in, in place of the dual, and wired it up correctly and now has no sound.

He tried resetting the alpine and no help. The dakota has the infinity sound system in it. With the factory amp, and all that. The factory harness has a solid blue wire for trigger to the factory amp. He wired the solid blue wire to the blue and white wire on the alpine, no help.

you guys got any ideas??

Try jumping the factory turn on wire to another 12V source just to see if that IS the issue.

If it is, the HU might not have the balls to turn the stock amp on. if thats the case use a relay.

Radioshack has a nice little relay for such occasions.

also, you could wire a spare speaker from behind the headunit, before and/or after seeking an alternate 12v source. this could help identify the problem.

usually sound comes from speakers not head units :)

How is he inputting the signal to the infinity amp? Speaker level? Line level?

I'm guessing you might need some kind of signal converter, or check for a harness that is meant to keep the factory amp and switch the head unit.

He has the harness that is meant to keep the factory amp. All he did was swap out head units. Wired exactly as the previous one was in the truck.

He also told me some more news, he is getting radio reception fine, and I beleive he is also getting his ipod fine as well. When he switches to cd he gets nothin. I have exhausted all my ideas and his as well. He has no other amp connection, other than the factory infinity amp. All his wires are correctly paired up.

The Alpine 9830 has a switch on the bottom for aux. I told him to try that and see what he got and he got nuttin.

this has me puzzled (which aint too hard to do), I hope someone here can shed some light on it.

yep just called an asked him. It makes no sense to me. why would he have fm and/or ipod but no cd??

The power antenna wire was the first question I ask him.

since the head unit has ipod capabilities, it would just have a 3.5mm jack right. It wouldnt have actual rca out would it??

Wait a minute...after downloading the owners manual for the stereo. It seems he cant run an ipod. It does indeed have an aux jack but that is if you have the Versatile link.

I think I may have found his whole issue.

Are you saying he can hear the radio and Ipod or just that he sees that they are working?
