Need some decent 6.5" coaxials.

I'm trying to keep the audio portion of the truck fairly simple and cost effective.

The speakers are going in pods in the lower door panel similar to something like this:

They will be running off an amp, though unsure what amp, need to pick the speakers and sub(s) first.

I might consider a decent set of components if I find something in my price range.

Price range? Around 100 bucks. :sad017:

I'm trying to keep my main focus towards body/paint work right now, but the stock audio set-up is killing me so I'm trying to slip it in the objective as well.

Give me your thoughts.

I found some pretty decent deals on ebay, while I was snooping around on there yesterday.

Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, Boston, Mb Quart all had some pretty decent prices.

Check with Ryan he may something right up your alley.

My cousin has a set of Boston coaxials in his durango, they sound pretty good, probably a lot better if they were powered by an amp.

I'm still a week or two from buying, just trying to gather some ideas now. I will check with Ryan this evening.

The boston PRO components are nice. I'm not sure many sets of coaxials are going to get you the SQ you are looking for...

Pointing tweeters at your feet is very counter productive.

Without a ton of work the imaging isn't going to be perfect. I'm not going for perfect so it all works ok. The purpose of this "build" is to get DECENT sound, or at least better than factory. I'm am going to tilt the pods to get it as close as I can, after that, eff it.

It's not going to be a sound quality set up, I didn't mean to that it was. It's just going to be a fun DD that will make it to the track once a month or so. Nothing about this truck is going to be extreme, the budget doesn't allow that, and that's not what I really want anyways.. It's just going to function decent in each department.

That helps set the tone for what recommendations to make. I can see better what you are going for now.

My recommendation, is still going to include components instead of coaxials.

You can always throw a tweeter in sail panels very easily.

There are some very good budget sets out there, for $100 or less, and you'll have more options for placing your tweeter.

Check out Pheonix Gold RSD components, CDT Classics, or Planet Audio, etc...

Even Boston's lower line of component sets might be in your price range.

Shoot, you could even get some raw drivers that fit where you need them to and a cheap active crossover. All still affordable, and somewhat easy to set up.

I do suggest some noise treatments on the doors, especially sealing off the front wave and rear wave of whatever speaker you choose.

I'm with falken on the PG RSD components. My brother runs them in his camry and they gettin pretty loud and sound real nice for the price range...pretty good midbass as well. I think they're right around 100 bucks so that'd be perfect for you. Alot of guys are running them for budget comps and i've heard no complaints.
