Stupid usps worker. ERRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

I posted the other day about shipping door panels. I finally got it figured out, did the online calculation, then took the package into the post office to double check the online calculator. They were pretty much right on with each other, so I went home and gave the buyer an exact amount. He pays me through pay-pal and I take the package back up to the post office for shipping. I'm not going to type the story out, instead I'll just show you what I sent to usps.

I had an issue sending a package from the Sullivan, Mo (63080) office this morning. I calculated shipping online, then took the package into the post office to 100% confirm shipping cost before collecting any money from the other party. The online calculator and the first guy were right at the same price. Good deal!

Once payment was made, I took the package back into the Sullivan office for shipping only to be told the shipping wasn't going to be the $21.xx (Parcel Post) that I was originally quoted, but instead it was going to be $72.xx!

The package was "Nonrectangular" so I measured how your website instructed. The first guy I dealt with at the post office measure it the same way!

The second guy ($72.xx) measure the max dimensions of the package, sorta like a Rectangular/Square. He did not measure the girth at all.

I pointed out to the second guy ($72.xx) that the online calculator said to measure the girth like the first guy did ($21.xx), which he absolutely refused to do. The package was very large in size, I believe measuring the girth kept the shipping cost down because it kept the package within the 'Parcel Post' limits.

Frustrated, I left the Sullivan post office (63080), and drove down to the Bourbon office (65441.) He followed the online directions and the package went back down to $22.97! Everything was the same between the 3 workers, except the way they way worker number #2 measured it.

I have a bunch of stuff I need to ship off, but right now getting an accurate shipping quote is impossible.

The Sullivan post office is near my house, which makes it convenient. If I have to run all over the place to try and get something shipped the convenience is gone.

I was hoping I could get a response on how exactly to measure a "Nonrectangular" package? Also, if the website is right, it would be nice is somebody could contact the Sullivan office(63080) and inform them the correct way to do their job.

Thanks for your time,
Justin Griffith.

I actually went back into the Sullivan office with my receipt after I sent it from Bourbon. As soon as I walked in the door the first guy called me over and said they were having a big debate on how measure the package. I just slapped down my receipt and smiled. He took it back to show the other guy, who still insisted that everyone was wrong. lol

So now I have a couple packages to ship off, but I guess I'm going to have to drive an extra 7 miles (each way) to ship them... what b.s!

Yeah, I figured. It usually all comes down to who you get at the shipping desk.

I just bring my stuff to work and ship it UPS. Nice having a shipping dept at work with daily pickups.
