Out riding around the other night and I found a truck that I may end up getting.

It is a 97 S-10 ZR2
4x4
Ext.cab
Auto
V-6 4.3
good tires
decent body
possible small lift
priced at 3900. probably get it for 3500.

now the bad news: 189000 miles.

What is the general consensus, I know if the vehicle has been maintained that miles are just a number.
but I have very little experience with the s-10. I do like it has got the 4.3 in it.

to me it sounds like a decent truck, I know it is eat up with miles but...for what I want it may be ok.

Gimmee some opinions and is there anything in particular that I need to worry about with it??

The zr2 is a nice package (wider stance, more ground clearance, etc), but that's a lot of miles for the asking price.

I'd say around $2,500 would be a fair price.

Don't expect to get good gas milage, I'd say on the hwy you'd be doing good to get 18-20mpg, around town I'd expect somewhere about 15mpg.

The 4.3 motors are decent, intake gaskets and valve guides are the main issues. The transmissions (4l60e's) arent the best, but arent the worst, though you're getting up there in milage so it would be a shocker if it went.

The fuel pumps are junk, its probably been changed a few times already. It's easier to take the bed off then to drop the tank (I can change on in about 15-20 min's with a helper.

I've had a few s10's/blazers, there decent.

I was hopin you would get in on this one. The gas mileage dont really worry me, I aint gonna be drivin it that much, I'm gonna keep my car and just use the truck as a work/winter/truck. The mileage is high though, I had a S10 blazer in the past and it was pretty solid.

So...its a maybe right now.

i'd say unless you can get it for about 25-2700 then its not worth it, as previously stated there are plenty of fish in the sea right now. I bet that truck will stay up for sale for a while because of the high asking price you never know he may drop it

Ahh i aint too worried about it. My car still runs good and I dont have to have another vehicle right now anyway. i got a lead on another one too, so you know. Ill find something sooner or later.

Thanks for all the input cause I do like having the ideas of people on here seeing as how so many of us do fool with cars quite a bit.

I vote for 4.0 ranger.... and this is coming from somebody who has a 4.3 s10.

Banks will usually loan up to the clean trade in value.

i agree with a ranger, my dad bought a 4.0 02 ranger ext cab. its a nice truck, even does better in the snow than his old 1500 ram because of the limited slip diff, and gets pretty good mileage, 26-7 highway

My sisters 95 explorer is creeping up on 300,000 miles, original motor and trans, no rebuilds...
