96 Ranger build Possibility...

Well weird as it may seem to me, I may be getting rid of my 96 Ram 1500... Has about 125k on her, but she is starting to really get well... you get the picture...

Anyhow... My dad ran across a pretty good deal, At least He thinks so...

He might be able to pick up a 96 Ranger 4cyl with a brand new motor and trany in it, brand new paint (Which probably means rust was painted over... I'll check on that)

Now... I havnt seen the car but a 4cyl truck would be nice since the mpg is much better than mine... and this is also a 5spd stick as well so thats a bonus. However, this may be a standard cab :( and it may also not be 4wd... (4WD would be a big bonus for me and would definitely swing the deal)

Anyhow... if it is a std cab i doubt there is much room back there for my 12" autotek's, This truck however does have a cap on it... I might actually do a Blowthrough on this truck... I figure why the hell not!

I'll keep you posted and if the blowthrough becomes a possibility, may be asking for guidance from the powers that be here.

Thanks,

Jay

Awww, that alright 2.3!

Good little motors, slow, but will last forever.

Thats ok to me... Slow is fine... Last forever... Thats what counts... and if it has a new tranny/clutch then I'm happy... He said he put in a brand new Mazda motor into it, so I think its a possibility...

I just wish there was som space behind the seats for some subs... It doesnt look that way and there is no way I'm sacrificing comfort in this truck as it might become my daily driver for a while...

I just had a guy call with a 98 S10 standard cab.

Before you go hacking have a look at some of the slim line subs.

American Bass and Cadence have a nice sub for very reasonable prices.

Also Cadence has what appears to be some nice prefabed boxes w/subs. They got a 12" that looks rather nice. 12" in a wood box.

Also something that caught my eye. An 8" sub in a box w/built in amp thats 3" high, 9 1/2" X 14 1/2"...

If my old man gets back to work soon Im going to push him towards one I think.

That 8" doesn't provide much for most of us here, great for adding a "little" bass to a stock set up... The Cadence loaded prefab does seem to be pretty decent though. Although I'd still personally want to see the blowthrough happen :)

I mean honestly... I'd like to do the Blowthrough.... It doesnt look that hard to accomplish given that I have all the right tools to do it. I would like to build the box possibly bandpass / not sure if the Autoteks will really like that if they the box is tuned into the mid to high 40's? But I mean realistically this truck is going to be a 2 year driver and then its gone... It doesnt have to look pretty but It better not leak you know?

I'd like to use some of that spray on rhino lining over the box in the trunk portion so if I ever want to haul some heavy or dirty shit I don't damage the box or have any water get in there, plus from what I hear this will ensure that it is sealed and should keep all outside rattles, leaks, noise out of the bed and only clean bass in the cab.

I am going to see the truck on Friday. So we shall see... One thing is for sure... My father really doesnt want me to install my audio components in this thing, and would flip If i did a blowthrough...

Somehow I think if he goes away for a weekend... I can get it done and he will never know... hmmmm

Well you know with it having a cap already, you could do a rear window style blowthrough and have no cutting... You only need remove the forward window of the cap and the rear window of the cab and get a camper topper gasket from an RV store.

Nah I don't want to lose my visability... Really even though this is a blow through its not meant to be Extreme SPL set up... There is just no room behind the seats for Subs so i figure why not do a Blowthrough?

I'd take Mike's idea and modify it.

Build a box in the bed firing the subs up. Then take a set of mdf and wall the box off from the rest of the bed. Now cut a plexi glass window in the wall that's big enough to where you won't loose any visibility. Because the bed is pretty wide and you can go pretty tall (to the window line) you can keep the dept down to the diameter of the subs, so 12-15". Not a ton of wasted space, decent cuft'age, hardly (if any) loss of visibility ...
