I was wondering where this blown capacitor was. I bought this off E Bay and was told it had a blown cap. At first I thought that was just dust and some duct tape in there... but nope, a small cap blew.
Take a look at that. Damn it made a mess. And thats just a SMALL cap. Imagine a full 1 Farad blowing.
I bet that sounded like a fire cracker!

I've never seen one like that before, looks like twine in there.
any other components look bad around that area? Caps don't normally just go bad on their own, almost never really.

I agree ^^^ The first time I ever was wiring up a system in my friends truck he wanted a Cap in it... I told him it was a bad idea and I wouldnt install one... well he couldnt not have one so he tried to install it himself... Wrong Resistor size and some how he blew the cap... thank god we were not near it when it happend... sh*t was every where..

Did you just replace the caps, or did you check the components around that area too?

Strictly replaced.
The big cap was questionable. It probably didnt need it, but I did it anyhow. The top wasnt bulged, but the corners appeared to be slightly rounded over...
The little caps... Well they were $0.77 for 10... lol So I just replaced all of them.
Ive seen another amp just like this with the same exact issue. These amps only take 5V input on the RCAs. Someone probably had a line driver on it and poof...
The seller of my amp stated it did work, however it wasnt as loud as it should be. Since there is a blown cap in the amp.
Only on the input side though :)
Hopefully I can test it this weekend. I just got two punch 40's in the mail today. One supposedly has a channel out... Other works...
