Well I just snagged a new used computer for my kid off Craigs List.
Its an eMachines with a 3000+Athlon, 512MB and 80GB. Integrated graphics.
For some reason this machine and an older one I worked on over the weekend doesnt seem to be compatable with an older CRT monitor Ive been using for YEARS. Like it will show the logo screen, the windows XP load screen then it goes blank???
Im using it right now on my LCD screen. Im a bit bummed as now I need to find an LCD for the kid...
Edit:
Both computers are E Machines of about the same era. Just this ones a tad newer. THe older one has a 2.6 Celeron, 256MB Memory and 60 GB, integrated graphics also. I upgraded that computer to 1 GB

Now to return to my Uncles Girlfriends Mother...

Yea that happened to me before when my LCD died.... If you cant get to windows to change the refresh rate, trying going into "safe mode" and changing it..

Well I thought things were going well.
I was downloading WindowsXP SP2 and it just froze up on me.
I then tried to restart it numerous times to no real avail. I tried the backup and it kept freezing on it. It even managed to FREEZE in the Bios???
Im stumped to all hell on this one.

CPU is overheating. Take the heatsink off, clean off the old thermal paste and replace with some fresh paste. Should work better after that. The paste gets dried out over time. If that does not fix it, look for bulging or blown caps on the motherboard.

Ok I will do that.
Another person on another board suggested pulling the battery on the bios. Ive done that as well.

Probably don't have to pull the battery, there should be a bios reset jumper...

It's usually easier to pull the battery. Both do the same thing.
