ahhhh im ****en mad. i was coming back from work. when a cop pulled me over. he said he pulled me over for two reasons.first reason was that i supposedly was following the car in front of me to close and second of all he said my exhaust was too loud and that it was illegal to have aftermarket parts that are not approved by CA law some bull shit explanation i cant recall to well. at no point do i ever remember following the car in front of me to close and so i asked him at wat point did i do that? his evidence was that i was tappin my brakes frequently. what do u guys think??? now to the exhaust part. first of all i do not have an exhaust. i wish i did ive been savin some money up to buy one. all i have is a muffler tip thats it nothing else. keep in mind i am currently residing in irvine for college. there are a lot kids out here with full exhaust systems some who have theres catless and as you can imagine they are insanely loud yet they never get pulled over??? i dont like to think like this but being that i am latino i dont know its feels like it is becuz of my race that im getting pulled over. my freshman year i got pulled over twice for no reason at all. cops gave me a weak reason one sayin that he thought i dint have my seatbelt on and the other saying that the brakelight above my backseat not the main brakelights, was out. i thought if i changed my car this would stop (old one was an olds cutlass )nowi have a mitsu lancer. i dont know maybe im overreacting let me kno what u guys think? oh yeah and that cop gave me a ticket for follwing car in front of me to close but not for supposed loud exhaust that i have.

It's hard to say if you were following the car to closely or not, I wasnt there.. lol

I think the rule is 1 car lenght for every 10 mph, or 3 seconds away...

As for the loud exhaust?? Ehh, I dont know, I've never heard your car.. Your car could be loud because of an exhaust leak??? :confused

If you really dont think you were following to closely, and think you were being harassed because of youre race I'd file a complaint.. You could also try and find out if he has any other complaints, it might be in public records, I dont really know..

Obviously the law is against you, so unless your 100% you were discriminated against I'd just let it go, or just fight the ticket itself...

You see it on the All State commercials and it's the old fashion way of knowing proper car length " 1 - Mississippi, 2 - Mississippi"... When following someone you look at when the persons vehicle's back bumper passes an object along side the road (tree, pole, hydrant, you get the idea) then you should be able to count "1 - Mississippi, 2 - Mississippi" before the front bumper of your vehicle reaches the same object... Then you know for sure that you have an assured clear distance.
I know this isn't easy either since many a people take advantage of that gap and cut you off taking away that distance then you have to fall back again ( :irritating).
Now I'm not saying that you were following to close... Just trying to give tips so it doesn't happen again... And yeah it does seem like a piss poor excuse to pull you over since I get tailgated all the time and will have cops drive right past the opposing direction and I'm like WTF!, why don't you do something to get this a-hole off my back.

one advantage to having a $hitty wagon....never been pulled over, was even blastin it and oops...drove right past a cop and nothin happened. If your car just has a stock exhaust and no leaks, i dont see why you shouldnt be able to win it in court....but then again i know nothing about that

They didn't give him a ticket for the exhaust... only used that as an added excuse to pull him over.

Well following too closely yea you can be pulled over for it, but as for the muffler, if its just a tip, I doubt that can be any grounds for added $$ on a ticket... I would fight it seeing as the police officer truely cannot prove it and more than likely they will just make you pay like $50 and bump it down to the lowest possible offense.
