So since AB sold out, I decided that I might try making my own beer.

I would like to start looking for a decent kit, or piece together a kit, or...

I'm looking for some advice here, so who has some to offer?????????

http://www.morebeer.com Has starter kits, reasonably priced.

They also have beer kits you can buy, and books to buy.

I recommend getting a book.

oh lord, only 300 days left in the beer heartland.

I know what my first investment when I get back is going to be.

eh, i dont drink beer so the idea of good beer is kinda lost on me. i have the occassional corona but dark heavy nasty beer aint my thing. give me a nice chardonnay, preferably australian, metal drum fermentation

or white star champagne...made by the same winery as dom. its excellent at less than 100 a bottle

Dude I feel ya on that one. I like to drink my beer not chew it. Becks it probably the closest mass produced beer to what I like. Good taste, and pretty light.

I'm not a wheat beer guy either. Taste gives me a headache.

I will keep you in mind when I PCS from here. I'm limited to 500 lbs or more if I want to do a wine / beer shipment. So if you want a case of german whites I can hook you up.

Its too bad you guys dont like the darker beers... Especially u Jeremy... you are in the holy land of beer right now... i would give my right nut to be there...

Anyhow... wheat beers don't give headaches unless they are high in phenolics... which im willing to bet is the sign of a poorly fermented beer... I'll bet you though if you had my American Wheat you would like that... and i would guarantee no headaches. You might also want to look into a good schwarzbier in Germany and i bet you would like that... just like Becks Dortmunder dark...

I think I resent that. j/k - there is so much beer here that is good..... None of the Micro breweries should be using preservatives in beer - I know Sprecher doesn't. I don't think Miller does either. I didn't think beer needed preservatives besides hops.

i think he means adjuncts... such as rice syrups and solids and honey... Thats how Miller gets their beer under 1.000 fg... they end up around... .998...
As far as preservatives??? No need for them... the beer is pasteurized and the hops are a natural preservative.
