OK now i am gona branch out a bit. I have looked at some 3 way/2way setups. I like the Eclipse three way.. THe pioneer premier two way, and the jl xr 2 and 3 way. Of the three which can compare with the previously decided system that we have discussed in this thread. Im not saying im not still looking to buy the self made setup im gonna purchase whatever i decide on the 16th i just want to test my options.

I'm still thinking you may wanna go 2 way with it considering you're a first timer. U could get better drivers and they'll be easier to crossover. Something like a SEAS W18NX combined with one of the tweeters we mentioned.

Audiocontrol makes a GREAT active 2 way crossover in the 24XS.

And that would walk all over any of the speakers you mentioned, and I mean WALK ALL OVER them.

wow ok i have heard the jl xr's and i liked them alot if this can handle them im all for it. Now if i mounted in the factory location for my 6.5 and made a small add on to the door to house a large phalange tweeter would that work out decently? how well do the seas play off axis?

Yup, you add on for a large flange and that'll work out nice. Compact tweeter in the sail panel or a-pillar will work nice as well. Keep in mind if you aren't doing them on axis, do NOT use the Vifa XT. Stick with one of the others.

That crossover has a phase control to help imaging out, very nice when trying to make things like this work.

Dunno when that new SEAS standard midbass comes out, but it really looks like it'll be a great value. Should be cheaper than the Excel with 99% of the performance considering it has the faraday rings and all, plus it has a smoother response in the upper midrange region.

What model is that?

Just based on the FR graph that Seas provides (http://www.madisound.com/pdf/seas/e0042.pdf), the W18NX will need a tweeter with a low crossover point to avoid the junk (breakup?) above 2k.

It's in the Prestige lineup. It's this one:

http://www.seas.no/Prestige%20Basser%20 ... 456-08.pdf

Not on madisound yet.

BTW, that Excel breakup isn't that bad. It's a minor peak, but they test in an enclosure, so the rising response due to baffle step makes the peak look worse than it really is. It's very manageable either way. I'd still cross at or below 3k though.

does seas make something similar to that midrange that cost slightly less some of the tests show most seas midranges getting very high scores let me see if i can pull some exact models tell me what you think

The one I just linked will probably be in the $60-80 range per driver, assuming it costs roughly what the other drivers in that lineup do. Not bad at all.
