PPI 1000.4dcx :thumbsup

I got the 4.5" Excels on a deal from Madisound.

I've heard the older Lotus components and I'd put them at or above everything on the market that I've heard as far as overall performance. Including Focal Bes, Dynaudios, the newer Morel and DLS stuff, MB Quart, newer Boston Zs, amongst others. They mainly suffer in extreme top end (above 12khz or so they're laid back) and the midbass is a low Qts design, meaning a flatter frequency response in a car door down low rather than being punchy and pronounced like most people prefer. In other words, most people are going to think the midbass is weak.

I can't vouch for the newer Lotus components, but they seem to be an improvement on an already fantastic system. The midbass is redesigned with a higher Qts and higher Fs, given the excursion capabilities it should mean that midbass will be very powerful down to around 60hz, the tradeoff being that it will rolloff quickly below that. IMO that was a good decision given that midwoofers don't perform well below 60hz regardless. The tweeter is a bit larger with a similar Fs, which should give lower distortion. Supposedly the dome was designed for better off axis despite the larger diaphragm. We'll just have to see. I'm excited to hear the new ones, though, they improve on what very few flaws the original set had.

well i personally believe that speakers shouldn't play that much bass. i believe the trunk is more than enough for me. I want a SQL set of speakers

i love my a/d/s' i'm just wondering if there is better.

They aren't a small sub or anything, just stronger in output than the last set. The last set could come off as a bit cold to most people because of the fact that the midbass was very flat in frequency response. New set should be more balanced in that area, at least to most people's preferences.

The midrange is what's exceptional about them. Cleanest, most articulate midrange I've heard from any 7" driver, period. Tweeters are very detailed and non-fatiguing, though lacking a little in extreme top end.

so it's a 7'' speaker. and they don't get very loud?..

i know car audio electronics rated it a 80 overall. better than the signature series polk's.
the main thing holding me back on that speaker is paying retail!.

i can just get another 100 and buy some xetec evo components.

i've been kinda out of it the past few days. been home in ohio for this week and have been sick for the majority of my stay so far. my nose won't stop running...

as for what i run:
JL XR650-CSi
RE SX 12"

and to the guy looking for a decent set of 4" components, check out the alpine type-x for one idea.
