If people won't hesitate to sue insurance companies, what makes you think they won't sue back.

He now knows that his current battery set up is a hazard.

If he is involved in an accident or causes any type of personal injury as a result of not installing the proper battery in a proper/safe location, he is now liable and negligent.

He can be sued by anyone that suffers a loss or injury as a result of his negligence. Now, when he goes to make an insurance claim for an accident or injury, you can bet your life that his insurance will reject his claim as a result of his known safety hazard.

Come to think of it, what does your insurance company have say about your in cabin non-sealed battery that is also not vented out?

Just be safe and do it right. The price difference between a sealed and non sealed battery just isn't worth the potential tragedy that may result.
