Someone scratched my car.

had to ask. on dialup, a lot of times I don't bother loading all the images on boards.
sometimes I have a reply written before they even load.

sad.

Okay, my friend tried t obuffer it ou with scratch-x. After a few tries, its starting to go away. Its not fully gone but its a LOT better. He says when he has time he'll do it some mroe and it should completely go away.

3 questions:

1) How muhc should I charge the kid? I'm thinking $75-$100. I'm going to give my friend like $25, causE I used his buffer a lot of his scratch-x.

2) I noticed that the part that we buffered with the scratch-x is a LOT smoother than the other parts, is this because it's clean?

3) Will the scratch come back if I wash the scratch with a car, or if it rains?

id charge 100 bucks. and no that scratch wont come back because the compound dosnt actually stay in the scratch it is used to smear the finish around to cover up the scratch.

essentially he's ground off all the clear coat that was scratched.
that's also why it's shiny now.. it's smooth and buffed out.
if ou want the whole car to look better, buff all of it out.

also get some clear reshot over that buffed section to build it back up once the scratches are totally gone.
that should be cheap and quick.

I'm not 100% crazy about my car being spotless. But that booger bothered me because of the writing, if it was just a scratch, it would've been fine and I wouldn't have cared too much.

Glass, you think I can fix it all the way? My friend is coming over again in a few minutes. I dont need it to be perfect, but as of now, if your walking by the car, and look around that spot, it'll stand out. But its gotten a WHOLE lot better after I fixed it a bit.

If you buff the rest of the car like you did that one spot it shouldnt be so obvious.

BUT, if he did take off a lot, or all the clearcoat in that area, then yes, you may have to do what Glass said before and have the spot re-clearcoated.

If you take a lot of the clear off you definately need to get it cleared again. Clear protects the paint and if you don't get it cleared again then you will run into problems down the road.

how much will it cost to get that spot/area recoated? I'm doing a LOT of hand buffing with the scratch-x

well if you just have them spray it, and maybe your buddy can help you wet sand it and buff it, then they shouldn't charge much more than 50 bux but probably less.
