I guess anything is possible if you get the right conditions and everything is right...

Things like that are hard to believe.

You posted some good scores, congrats. But how does the system sound musiclaly?

I guess it all depends on your goal in this hobby/sport.

Mine is to sound good. Thats priority number 1.

SQ1 SPL2
Its peaking at 48hz and it will play whatever you throw at it with one of the ports plugged, not sure how much SPL it loses from doing that, but it still sounds loud while retaining much of its SQ.

It sounds perfectly fine in this box, but it does sound better in a smaller box... on that same note, it will probably also get *louder* in a smaller box.. need testing ;) . Sounds crappy sealed though.

Sounded superb in another one of my test boxes... played whatever you threw at it and loved it. That box pulled a 146.0 on my lanzar amp, which is much less power than the viper. It should pull a 147-149 off the viper... while still sounding great.

The type S is actually a better "SQ" woofer... much smoother response. That, and it still did a 147.3 in a very musical box powered by my lanzar d3000m. I prefer a fat low end though, and the S was just a little too smooth for me :)

Btw, as far as the 8l7... to my knowledge no single 8 l7 setup has broken a 150. I believe the loudest was a 148 in a CRX... I oddly enough was just going over this thread on the termpro forums. Thats of course sealed on the dash, it may have done a 150 in the kick.

maybe it was an 8".. I dunno. It's been long enough I don't recall anymore. I didn't pay a lot of attention at the time. I wasn't a big solobaric fan.. still not my favorite speaker lol

I would recommend them if they were a tad more reliable.

I guess spkrman is bringing a ton of SPL to the forum. I find it odd that we haven't had more SPL guys.

I'll second that. We have a few guys with SPL goals (me being one of them), but not many SPL competitors. There are some good SPL competitors on here that rarely post. I'm hoping to do a few comps this summer. Just need a new amp and lots of testing!

odd in that everybody sees to be going SPL these days. I meet relatively few SQ and SQL people anymore. I know Jon and I are, Chris is, Shon at ROE is SQL.. most of the CAFers and eCoustics crowds are SPL folks. anyway the Solobarics get plenty loud, I just see a lot of design issues with them, and a lot of people with failed solobarics, and that bothers me. Granted in part this could be due to the large number of them in circulation, as well as the average inexperience of the people who tend to choose them (newbs and entry level folks, it seems) since they usually set gain on the amps too high, and abuse the subs badly.. (PMR 240SX example)

I like Stillwater Design though. we used to be a Kicker dealer.. good amps, the other speakers they make and have made since the early 90s are all godo stuff.. but the square subs.. not for me. their signal processors aren't bad either

I herd a friends Single Kicker comp10" today, for one sub with 240wrms going to it, that thing got loud in a single cab SS s10. It was a sealed box with polyfill too. Im in the plans for an SPL truck. When i get that on the road i will be sure to tell everyone about it, and post up some scores after a couple competitions and alot of testing.

Well, I personally respect SQ guys big time, but let's face the facts..some people love LOUD music. It seems as folks get older, they tend to steer twoards SQ. Putting together a great SQ system can get very *costly* and many people just can't afford it. For daily driving, the best of both worlds works for me. Something that sounds clear and get's plenty loud. But you already knew that ;)
