Your not getting a good cut on Metra then.Ryan from Ohio wrote:Ya I figured I would just shelf the fit kit.
Im cool on the harness Bill. Im just going to stop buy and pick up an American International one, they run $6 retail. Thats $4 less than the Metra ones wholesale... And are just as good...
Looking at what come with the unit, the Bongiovi software, Im a bit let down. If you read the sales pitch, the system is unique to each vehicle. I figured there was a test disc and some sort of a microphone.
Nope.
Just a disc to update the software to a generic "one size fits all" equalization.
Im going to see if the CD works in the computer or a way to open the file(s).

Thats highly probable. My distributor seems to think anything with "Metra" on it is mega premium stuff worth gold... Even the Raptor garbage...
I got the American international harness for $6... $10 is my wholesale price for the Metra stuff...

Im not exactly impressed with Crutchfield though. They claim the radio wont fit into my car so therefore I didnt get a fit kit. The funny damned thing is in their instructions they CLEARLY show the use of a fit kit but dont call it out. The reason pretty much all radio's wont fit into an Alero is the plastic behind the units, which we all cut out... The wiring harness is on back order and I guess I get that when I get it...
I think im going to call and complain about the fit kit. Its fairly shitty to say you give these out free and find a loop hole to get out of it. If it wont fit my car and your not sending me a fit kit, then why did they send me an antenna adapter and wiring harness???

I dont NEED the fit kit anyhow- but for someone buying into Crutchfield expecting such things, I would be mad.[quote="Ryan from Ohio"]
Yep I had the EXACT same problem with my bonneville. Same reason as you, casue of the plastic behind the unit. I dont agree with that free kit thing either, I mean they either do or they dont.
I was mad when I didnt get the kit. I thought hey one stop shopping. but no. Other than that, I dont have much bad to say about them.

I got it installed tonight. I soldered the wiring up yesterday. It came out very nice and orderly. I even had enough heat shrink!
Im not sure what to think of it at this point, not enough time to listen to it.
My very preliminary assessment:
Im not feeling the display on the unit. The dot matrix is only adjustable one way, lighten/darken it. No way to change the "saturation" of it. Sometimes you see other dots lit up that in fact shouldnt be.
My next issue is it doesnt have crossover functionality for the deck driven speakers. The last unit did and it was VERY handy even in its limited slopes/ability.
Lastly the Bongiovi stuff. The jury is still out on this... I cant say I care for it nor can I say I hate it. Theres a big difference in the decks sound with it on and off. I think part of the trick is a half-assed built in time alignment. With it off the speakers even sound a bit out of phase. Im just not quite sure. I need mroe time with it.
For $110 shipped with the freebies its a deal. Is it a keeper? Probably not. Im a little bit of a snob when it comes to HU and I dont think this is what I really want. However for the casual person or a person without subwoofers this is the HU to get!

Well today I finished up the install. Took a bit longer as I did some LED modifications to my HVAC controls... So I did it all while it was apart.
I will have more on the radio Monday because I will have an hour with it.
