actually the quad core intels run hotter than the AMDs, but they are also loads faster than AMD, and overclock like mad, so it's a trade off. the heat is caused by the power used for the additional computing power.

go Intel. forget company loyalties and go with the best product.

also if you do plan to overclock it to get the best performance, go with good RAM. forget the economy crap and buy the high end stuff with good timing specs. always worth the difference in price. especially if this is going to take months to put together, since by the time you buy everything, it's all going to be obsolete anyway.

arent the quad core intels not really quad cores but 2 dual cores

I was reading on Tom's hardware about some issue Intel is having with the quad cores. I can't remember what it is. I think it had something to do with their cached memory not being adequate or something along those lines. Even still, the duo cores rated higher then the AMD quad cores.

I believe it had to do with utilization of the cached memory... Airforceyooper you are correct... but i do believe that they will be fixing that problem soon... I have been reading a bit about the new Intel release of their Penryn line and supposedly even with the change in nm size of the chip, there is a new process in which they are manufactured which ensures better conductivity and transfer...
