Abit and gigabyte are certainly good as well. I can only recall one problem i've had with abit, and everything else has been good.

What was your problem with Abit? I've had at least 4 Abit boards. Just curious. I don't believe I've ever had a real problem with them.

it was a dumb thing that i probably shouldn't hold against them anymore, but i had reliability issues with their VERY FIRST pentium-2 board (first board with slot 1). The thing is so old that they don't even mention it in their "discontinued product" list.

but on the flip side, i can't recall any serious issues with any asus boards. I still have an old P3V4X (pentium3-EB 533mhz) board that continues to chug along just fine in a 24/7 rackmount server. I also still have the A7N8X Deluxe v.2 board which was one of the only decent boards to support 400Mhz FSB on the athlon XP3200+ chips. THAT was a freakin' bad-ass board in its time.

That'd probably be a good choice for Epox and core2 duo. I hope they still have the quality control that they use to

I just ordered one for a friend, along with a 19" LCD and wifi card.
total cost was about $600

True, but thats a bad ass board and processor! You could downgrade quite a bit and still have a good computer.
