GlassWolf wrote:actually that's incorrect. We have more oil in the earth right now than the accumulated amount that's been used to date. The major issue is being able to get to it.
You are correct, I agree with you . I somewhat went off on a ramble because It bothers me to hear people complain about the oil companies.
GlassWolf wrote:This country is bigger than all of Europe, with half the population density. We are too spread out to rely on public transit systems the way a large portion of the EU does.
True, but we also have cities such as Chicago, LA, DFW, ATL, ect that consume vast amounts of commuter fuel which could benefit from public transit systems that are widely used throughout the EU.
GlassWolf wrote:Then also consider that it's not just vehicles that use oil, but plastics production, heating, power generation, small engines for things like mowers and tools, and so forth.
Well of course. :thumbsup
GlassWolf wrote:I won't even get into the whole deal with gas companies and car manufacturers being in bed together to limit fuel economy and build cars with built in obsolesence. As for alternative fuel sources, the best option right now is LP, but it's not widely available in the US at stations.
:thumbsup
GlassWolf wrote:Hydrogen is vastly inefficient, Ethanol produces more toxins to produce than gasoline produces when burned and refined. Pretty uch every option for alternatives have severely limiting factors, or is just impractical thus far..
This goes back to car manufacturers and government. Ethanol is just an example of how much we have known for how long. We have had the technology.

Same thing. We have had the technology and the capability, just have not done it, or at the least put the effort into its research considering how long we have had to mature our research in this field.
The vast majority of vehicles on the road have an EFI system. That was what, the 80s when efi hit the big screen. Granted, a great deal of vehicles do not have an EFI system, but imagine the change if say every vehicle from 1995 up could run a flex fuel?

truth, the majority ofour public transit systems are crap. Even in major population hubs.

I looked at EFI conversion for my car.. it'd run me about $4500 to change over from my 4bbl. for the intake mods, fuel cell and electric pump, new lines, AN fittings, TB, and so forth.
More than I'm ready to spend just yet, in spite of the benefits.

Cost wise it probably isn't any cheaper in the end, but it's extremely flexible and looks retro. Haven't used it personally, but have met a lot of people using them with great results. It's a true MAF fuel injection system.

Adding to the previous alternatives, electric cars are a waste of time. You're still charging them with a power plant powered by the same fuel a car is using, many of them being less efficient than the cars would be themselves.

On the way to the Lake Thursday, I paid $2.59/gal for gas, while at the lake, same price, but on the lake, 3.29/gal. WTF??? Makes no sense. I don't know how those guys pay their bills. On the trip home today, filled the tank, on the highway, for 2.38/gal. A new record. for this trip that is. Damn boat takes a hellamount of gas. I spent over 130 bucks for gas in the last 5 days, not including the truck to pull the boat with.
