So now that Eclipse's quality has officially
Eclipse HU's, the upper line, will not do MP3 aux plugins. They do this, IMO, because MP3 players are actually acoustically noisy. Eclipse has had a reputation as pure SQ HU's. You can play MP3 encoded cd's with no problem, I would think this is because before you record them on your cd, you might have the capability to modify the compression rate to emulate a true cd-quality digital reproduction. But through the Ipod and whatnot, there is nothing but the minimal compression rate in order to allow more and more songs in just 512mb, or 2GB, or 20GB...whatever.
That pioneer is a sweet piece, but to allow MP3 connectivity, IMO, it seems they took a step back in SQ...rather than a step forward.

thats a very valid point, but with the immense amount of mp3 players being used today and for the thousands who want to play them in their car, the choice should atleast be there. i know that my mp3 player doesnt have cd quality when connected to the aux input on my hu, but there are so many mp3's on my player that i dont have on cd and quite frankly have no intention on burning to a cd anytime soon. its just easier throwing everything on my little player. and i enjoy playing it in my car (even with a slight drop in quality).
but then a negative point towards the mp3/ipod market. it seems that alpine has focused entirely on this aspect for almost their whole hu lineup, and throws out all of their sound shaping abilities, high volt pre-outs, and even their motorized face. it just seems all they care about now is ipods. i mean seriously, you have to buy one of their dvd hu's just to get 4 volt pre-outs.
