havent read any of the posts really, but gas is like $2.89 or so.. anyway... i really doubt gas will get over $4.. think about it.. people arent happy with gas prices Already.. and some have resorted to motorcycles, walking, taxies, bicycles..etc.. so if it goes to over $4, give or take.. More people will stop buying gas, and the world needs money to revolve anymore.. so i doubt it will go up..
Yes, but not everyone can take a bicycle or walk to work. Like myself, I live in the country and have to drive 20 miles to get to work. I'm no Lance Armstrong. I could conserve via carpooling, etc, but in the end we all need gas because the country is so wide open. Comparing us with, say, Europe- gas/diesel in Europe is extremely high, but they really don't have to drive as far to get to work or wherever they need to go since their countries are more crowded.
But there is still room for greed of oil companies. Look at the car market. Are small cars really selling all that well? Even where gas is priced now, it still really isn't bad enough to make you justify buying a shitbox over a larger car. Say you're looking at Hondas or whatever, assume you can average 25mpg from an Accord and 35 from a Civic (which is a maybe on the Civic's behalf when you take city driving into account), and you drive 200 miles a week. At $3 a gallon, we're talking a measly 7 bucks worth of difference in a week, not even counting the fact that a compact car is more expensive to insure. Is $7 a week really worth driving a car that shoves your balls into your throat? Many times the larger car comes out cheaper with insurance taken into account. Sure, the SUV/truck market has taken a hit, but there's a huge difference between SUVs and cars as far as mileage goes.
