JL Audio 500/5 - Any others like it?

i like to look at amplifier specs as well but the bottom line for me is what happens when i install it? after everything is said and done...what happens next is most important to me...i install amps every day and im proud to say i have yet to have any of the amps we sell be bad or go out.....as far as amplifier sound goes, i think this goes back to specs. i think there are amps out there that are better suited for some jobs than others...i wont go into name brands here just to avoid a brand comparison but i think everyone will agree that there is more to look at than just wattage....

Yeah, for certain applications I feel the same. Primarily with swinging impedance loads like what you'd experience with electrostatic panels, which of course is a far cry from what you'll see out of a mobile audio system. It takes a good amplifier to do that one, and sometimes a tube amplifier can handle swinging impedances more effectively. For car audio you have similar applications for the most part, with the most stringent demands coming from those who wish to run subs at super low impedances and require a solid high current amplifier to feed it/them.

I think #1 for any amp install is accomodating it well. Few go to the effort of routing power/ground cable as best they can, as well as providing the amplifier with sufficient current should they decide they want it to get loud every once in a while.
