You go into a McDonalds, the power goes out, so when the register dies it takes some dumbass kid 5 minutes and the help of a manager to calculate sales tax, and another 2 minutes worth of thinking to figure out how much change I need when I give him a $10 bill. Now we'll give these types a couple of bucks more for a little while, until prices of everything spike and we're all poorer because of it. No wonder illegal immigrants are becoming a good idea.

yes, but when minimum wage goes up, so does the prices on EVERYTHING. groceries, gas (in some places like oregon), clothes, all merchandise.....there is no real benefit to raising minimum wage, all it does is increase inflation.

i suppose. but if you're making $5.15 an hour, as opposed to $15, that $2 really does affect you.

i make less than minimal wage right now. i barley pay myself anything so i must be a really big retard. i worked for along time making minimal it sucks but its work. i made 6 bucks and hour welding and doing machine work and i made 11.97 an hour shoveling that really makes sense.

6 bucks an hour for welding and machine work? Damn. my dad makes like $25 an hour doing CNC machinging and such.

Darthness, I wasn't trying to offend you or any other McDonalds employees out there, nor was I stating that all minimum wage employees are stupid/incompetent/whatever. McDonalds was just a setting I was using, there are bad employees everywhere, I could name about 50 people at the plant I work in that don't deserve the current minimum wage, and in reality make around $12 an hour starting out, getting a 5% raise every year at that. When I said "these types" I was referring to the specific people that can't effectively do their job, in the example above, it is to do elementary school level math, in which I've been in many fast food restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores and experienced the above scenario. My point is that there is an increasing number of people that enter the workforce while being fully unable to do simple tasks such as count money, add/subtract, speak the english language properly, etc. Sorry that my statement above was blunt, but I didn't feel like going into detail as I felt it wasn't necessary.

But the sad fact is that when you raise minimum wage, the ones that make minimum wage will suffer the most. Prices won't rise proportionally, every company is going to get even more profit margin and use increased labor cost as an excuse. The couple bucks an hour extra will not compensate for the increased cost of goods. Companies also aren't going to give employees a proportional raise to compensate for inflation, so people that are making $15 an hour or more are most likely going to stay at that level as inflation raises, so they'll pay more and make less. In the end, everybody suffers except Corporate America. That is not counting the layoffs and slower job growth that will come out of it, either.

ya it was in my old town but it didnt matter i got a grade for it and i got out of school for a half of a day to work there no fat pay but its better than sitting around at school. i was pretty bad ass at the lathe when i finished there. i could thread a bolt. and thats pretty hard. and im a pretty bad ass welder too.
