I am asking about both a sub box and kicks. The shop owner wants a grand per item.

This is the first time I have heard good things about qforms... always assumed that it was very generic and just trying to make 'most' speakers sound decent...

air space on the prefab is .6 cu ft; and the boston g5 asks for .5 cu ft

I have multiple pics of the sub box, but this should give ya an idea:

(that is a penny on the rim, and it comes together in the middle rather odd)

I am making the trip to the shop at noon thursday (today). So any further advise would be most effective before then.
Thanks for all the help so far :thumbsup

If your still considering paying $1000 for kicks then your crazy. There is absolutely no way in HELL its worth that much-PERIOD.

If that box pictured is the one he wants $1000 for, that is still a rip off. Thats not fiberglass...

He is definetly going to get rich off of doing fiberglass installs if he can find people that are gullible enough.

SInister gave some accurate prices that sound fair IMO for the kicks. It still sounds expensive but by the time you factor in materials, design and actual working time its fair.

The box in the pictures is the prefabed box I bought for $125 from subthump.com. I do NOT think kicks or a fiberglass sub box is worth a thousand. I just need other solutions... like qform kicks, mounting the mid in the stock location and placing the tweet somewhere on the dash, or get sinister to make me some kicks...

Its a smaller shop. The owner deals with customers almost exculsively and is an awesome guy. He tries to give out some really good deals (atleast on the other equipment he was selling... dipping below dealers 'allowed' pricing) , and he puts enourmous amounts of time into the kicks he makes, but worth $1000 to me... nope.

I am atleast gonna try the box I pictured. Just undecided on what to do with the components, and I only have a couple more hours before I leave for the shop... :argh

Just put them in the doors.

Thats the easiest and cheapest solution.

just pick about 4 places where you think you can mount them then wire everything up and tape the tweeter in each place and see which sounds best to you.

I had my tweeter mounted on the door where the A pillar meets the door when the door is closed...I moved it recently to be flush mounted in my door, about 5" away from the mid. It sounds so much better, my sound stage is a lot higher, and its just better overall. I'm sure it varies with the car/speaker type etc but thats my experience.

Just to give yall an update. Here is what I requested the shop owner to do:
Mids in stock location, tweets on a-pillar, small amp rack to hide amps, fan the amp rack, install hu and ipod adapter, put a mesh screen over the box to hide it...

The shop owner was also a dick when I got there, bad day or something... then he told me he wanted $2600 to do it...

I replied: No Thanks
