you also don't necessarily need 1200 watts RMS either. The difference between 600 watts and 1200 watts on the same exact setup otherwise is 3 db (theoretically).

I think if you had 600-800 watts RMS as you suggested originally, you'd be fine as long as you built a very good box for the subs. Actually a good box is very important no matter how much power you put to them.

Power is going to be strictly regulated by box size. to get the best output a well designed ported box will optimize the power on tap. This is also regulated by the spiders of the sub.

The 3 main factors in designing a box is Power, Suspension and Volume Displacement. with those 3 simple factors you can create a well designed ported box. other factors matter but not nearly as much. (this is speaking strictly for mechanical power handling.)

A very good amp for you would be the American Bass SQ 1500M (2 Ohm stable mono block and probably fit your budget better).

Okay isn't that on the avoid list?also does it have to be stable at 2ohms or can I just get one that does good power at 2ohms? If its not stable is that what causes the power sutting off?

If you are going to have your amp wired professionally, you should consider finding a shop that you trust to install it and buy an amp from that shop. You should save money on the install since you bought it from them. Also, most shops are willing to work with you on pricing. Whenever I've gone into a shop, looking at equipment, they are pretty honest with you about what they can do for pricing.
