Can anyone confirm that $240 shipped was a good deal for a 12" SX? I've never really known for sure.

Also, if you don't mind explaining stamped verses spoked that would be great! Always trying to learn...

A stamped basket is stamped from sheetmetal, where as the spoked basket mentioned here is probably cast. The cast, spoked basket will probably give more structural rigidity, depending on the quality of the casting, material thicknesses and materials used. In this application, I doubt it makes much of a difference. You're probably paying more for the appearance - the stamped basket kinda looks cheap ;)

A stamped basket can be as strong as cast if the thickness is there, but typically a sub with a cast basket is able to be built to closer tolerances due to the manufacturing process required. Cast spoked baskets tend to be designed better in terms of preventing reflections and aiding ventilation as well.

To expand/clarify (on what I said above):

Casting allows you to create more complex geometries than stamping, which can (1) provide more strength with less material, and (2) look cooler. However, it's more expensive than stamping.

ok this is my forte! lol i love talking about tooling... just as john said the stamped basket can be just as strong as the cast basket and in some cases stronger... depending on the casting material. and john was mostly correct on the tolerancing. metal stampings can be held very close depending on the operation. in most cases the baskets are pierced and drawn or go through a progressive die. the prog die would hold much tighter tolerances than the drawn tool. mmm i love toolin

PS, back to topic, if everyone generally agrees on it, I'd be happy to move hifonics from questionable or disputed, to the good list.
any contentions?

If you do, you should put the 2006 models and the Old school ones on the good list,a nd keep the 99-2005 or whatever the overated ones still on the Q list?
