sweeeet.

hey william, i just realized where atlanta was exactly. for some reason I thought that atlanta texas was south of longview. its about 40 miles north. you were like 30 minutes away. i was planning a cross country flight last night and saw atlanta on my sectional map, almost kicked myself. i could have even flown out there one day and we could've gone up to fart around...they got a nice little airport from what i hear. oh well....

Dang, well, I knew longview wasn't far away, but I didn't have a car anyway. The town is pretty small too, small enough to have a 50 mph speed limit through! I don't think I was there longer than a week. Time has been a blur for me recently, but tomorrow I'm heading back to new orleans (actually Metairie, but it is part of new orleans).

Well, I've got my van back and yesterday, my parents managed to get to my house. Everything in the first floor is pretty much gone and barely recognizable. They took pictures and some video. It's very bad. Our dining room table and chairs collapsed in place. Almost nothing is in its original place. I'll get the pics when I can, I don't have much computer/internet access.

They got to go up to the 2nd floor and see what they could get. The mold didn't grow far up the steps or much up the walls, so our two rooms on the 2nd floor are fine. They grabbed as much as they could till the humidity and smell got to them. The smell is unbelievable. They managed to grab my two loudspeakers, two of my mixers, one of my computers, my rack gear, and some of my brother's stuff.

It's funny how they got in. A week or so ago, the dining room window was broken in to see inside. To get in yesterday, they tried the front door and couldn't get it open from the outside (includes kicking it in and using a crowbar, didn't budge). They go to the garage to get a ladder, and they have trouble opening the door because of everything in there pushing against it. They get the ladder and climb in through the broken window. My dad walks up to the front door and it opens right up from the inside. :argh

Rita is pretty much finishing up here. We just got tropical storm stuff and it didn't really affect us until my g/f's apartment lost power.

Damn man. That sux about your house but at least you got some of your electronics out of there and you got your van back in one piece. Are you going to have to rebuild the whole house you think? Would insurance take care of some/most of it? If so, that would totally suck, but at least you guys have a place to stay through it all.

I can only imagine how long it would be before you guys get payment for your loss.

Especially considering the shear magnitude of what happened...

We are only going to fully rebuild if we need to. We are hoping that we only have to gut the first floor, but we need the word from an official on whether the house will be condemned or not. It would be nice to have a new house instead of a 70 year old one. We're planning to spend the least we need. My dad retires in 5 years and my parents plan to move out of the city then (and have been for some time).

We hope State Farm gives us the max. That would really help a lot. But of course, all insurance companies are the biggest criminals around and will do all they can to pay as little as possible.

I got to drive into New Orleans myself yesterday. I was working for my g/f's job, a local dry cleaners, and got to go downtown (outskirts of it anyway). The inside of the first floor of the cleaners was very bad. The entire front counter was in half and on the floor. The computers had rust on them and the floor was just plain nasty. We rescued some cash which looked really nasty. At least their second floor was fine and we got out some necessary items they needed.

After leaving the cleaners, I got to at least pass by my house. The water was just above the second pane of glass on our front screen door. Keep in mind that my house is raised 3 feet too. Driving through some of New Orleans, I can tell you, it looks just like a warzone. No exaggeration. There are cars in the middle of the street and debris everywhere. Also, imagine driving through a major city with no electricity anywhere. I saw many houses with the spraypaint on them with the X's and all.

I'm going back in tomorrow to salvage what I can. This time I'll bring back pictures for you all.
