i own a fi Q 18 great sub, if you want to go ported, once again i feel your doing this backwards dont pick the box design then the sub, pick the box that works best with your sub.. Q is basically built to run sealed, you can port i do have mine that way, glasswolf has a 15 sealed. THe BL would get louder and work out better ported. FUlly loaded FI BTL would work great. Bill will im guessing explain his experience with DD.. and ill just say no to them i suppose for hear say reasons... 800 bucks on one sub, your starting to get into that range thats past bang for your buck lol
mmmm inverted 18!!!!:bow :bow :bow

On an $800 budget I'd go for something like two 13W6v2s. Good output, excellent SQ, plenty of deals on them barely used or new from sellers online.

I'm really kinda suprised Bill didn't mention the Olympus OLM2412s or 2415... Those would definately fit within your budget, get loud, and sound good doing it.

I believe you have probably been drawn into rumor and hearsay from other forums... Hifonics (Maxxsonics) actually makes decent equipment and is rated "Good" on our good, bad, and ugly list here... Bill (Bwcad1) here is even a member of Team Maxxsonics and can pretty much answer any question you have on their products (or find it out)... Heck, look at the Maxximus subs to get an idea of their quality as it's one of the SPL beasts.
The biggest problem most people encounter with Hifonics is that there has been so much bought on ebay, and online retailers so cheap with no warranty that it gives it a bad name... But that could be said of any equipment bought online from an unauthorized dealer... Hifonics is great bang for the buck, and that's what you asked for ;)

The only problem I've seen from the Olympus line of subs is that cheesy lil mesh wrap around the magnet has a tendancy to pull loose, as it's only for aesthetics, but performance wise... I've heard these sound great on what would seem like next to no power, and heard it Pound when given some real juice :D

You must have been looking at the Maxximus at $900... where as I was recommending the Olympus 2400 series (retail on the Olympus 2412 is $499.99, but even us authorized dealers don't sell at retail)... So 2) 12" 2400s would fit inside your $800 budget as well.
I recommended the Olympus because you said you wanted it to sound good getting loud, whereas the Maxximus is for pure SPL and wouldn't make a good daily driver.
The DDs and DCs are also a very good choice... I was just trying to give you more options as you asked :thumbsup
