I looked at MP3car.com a long time ago, but thought the site was basically dead since all their product stays out of stock. They never seem to have anything. They have a double din touch screen ready to drop in. Everyone either sells a full indash unit with touchscreen that can't be addapted to a carputer, or a regular touch screen that needs to be modded into the dash. I've never worked with ABS plastic and am a little nervous to try it. But last night I thought about it and am considering this whole carputer thing. I think it would be cool, if nothing else it could develope into a pretty functional thing. So I'm going to research ABS plastics and see if I can't find some walkthroughs for this sort of dash work.

well, I can have a hard drive with thousands of songs on it, video, etc., Navigation, engine diagnostics, full acoustic control through software and plugins, WiFi, etc. What ever I want. And since my router in my house is right about my garage, I'e be able to connect to my router and download music wirelessly while sitting in my garage. Or what ever. It just seems to open up a lot of opportunities.

if i had the money id do it to

id get some small form factor motherboard micro atx or mini itx a laptop hard drive or better yet a flash based hard drive then some ram and a point of sale touchscreen off ebay then bam! have a carputer.

im pretty sure people have made linux builds specifically for this. its also pretty easy with windows getting your favorite media player and some skin so its easy to see the buttons then changing shell=explorer.exe to shell=wtfevermplayer.exe
theres probably many free apps to do this also i really havent looked into it since years ago when techtv was cool and they showed you how to make one using dos i think they also used winamp and keyboard shortcuts

Plus you can pull into almost any McDonalds or Burger King and thousands of truck plazas and have free internet access.

Ah ok. I haven't had much experience with that site because I was never interested with putting that much into my car. I just remembered looking through their store and thinking how great of an idea it was to package everything together.

As far as the ABS plastic, check out fiberglass forums or something for tutorials on it. It doesn't seem that hard as long as you have some kind of filler to work with for curves.
