I worked for an automotive supplier. The company i worked for designed and manufactured the taillamps. We had tons left over after testing was complete, they said to trash them, or do what I want with them.

I have looked into retrofitting the Tahoe style projector headlight on one of them, not ready to that work yet.

I got my amber LEDs from Quickar (not true superflux but still good) they have the 70ma ones on sale right now for .10 each.
The red/orange ones (real superflux) ones I got from one of the members on HIDPlanet. He has buys a ton from Lumileds and gets a discount I think.

The headlights I plan on retro'in in a HID projector into the sealed 4x6 housing. Should be pretty cool, if it turns out good. I've seen some who did this with the sealed 6x9 (I think that is the size) on an older 4Runner. Looked really good.

I still think you should throw some LEDs in it for daytime running lamps too or maybe make your own Halo with LEDs Just tryin to put ideas in your head

I was thinking of putting a row of white LEDs into those parking lights, but didn't have any here.

I've also thought about, when I put the projectors in, maybe making some angle eyes too.

LEDs are fun :)

Sure haven't had much time to work on this lately, but did get a little done today.

Got the board cut to fit the lens, and soldered in 2 rows of LEDs.'



I think I'm going to do this retro a little differently then the others. On my other ones, I've epoxied the board, into the reflector. So there is some gap between the lens and the LEDs. I tried today, and the light from the LEDs didn't look that great. So I tried moving the board, onto the lens and it looks much better! So I'm going to epoxy the board right onto the back of the Lens. Doing this also makes it easier for spacing the LEDs too.

Here are what the 2 rows of LEDs look like when placed against the lens.


My goal is to have 3 rows per section. I think it's going to be plenty bright :)

Plenty bright nothin... from the looks of it you could cut through pea soup fog with them puppies... Looks great though Can't wait to see the finished product.

That looks great! Very much the way I've been wanting to do mine. Don't want to take apart my daily driver, so I need to find a set of grid tails like those (hard to find in good shape).
