and you're right, i don't know a *whole* lot about the stock market... i know a little.. and i vaguely remeber what to look for in a stock, but i'd rather not go that route right now. i'd rather go iwth something a little safer.
As far as being safe I look at it a little differently and you could too at your age. I am not sure what your plans are for the future career wise and what not but most companies offer some type of 401K program or retirement program.
I feel at a young age it is a lot easier to get into a program that offers more reward but that comes with more risk. At a young age if you put 2000 dollars into a program that invested it "aggressively" your reward could be huge in a much shorter period of time. On the other hand if it went bad and you lost your 2000 dollars it wouldn't be the end of the world. Yeah it sucks that you lost 2 grand but at least you weren't 35 years old and counting on that to make your retirement.
At a young age you just have a lot less to lose and much more to gain "possibly" then you can if your older. This is just my opinion and I am not saying this what you should do.

A Roth IRA would be a good investment. The link I attached below is to a local banks website (local to me). It has calculators you can play with, and good definition of terms.

My brother had success online trading stocks, but he spent a lot of time with it.
Have you thought about being an entraprenuer (Spelling?)? You could always invest it in a business idea. It could get you a good head start in the right direction.

i do intend to go the entepreneur route, i do plan to invest in/start a business in the future... and i do intend to get into the riskier investments.. but right now, with $2000 being 1/5 of my annual income, its kind of hard to picture risking loosing some or all of that money, specially in an entrepreneur.

Yea, thats a tough decision to make, especially when you compare it to your current income. Just remember to keep this money seperate from your income, unless you decide otherwise. That way, no matter the decision and outcome, you are not taking an out of pocket loss.
