I cant even begin to explain that... Ford has NEVER been good to our family... Dodge has been great and so far Toyota has been superb, better than dodge... One thing ill never venture into is VW... tooo many electrical problems and water problems... those 2 together is way to volitile of a situation for me to get into

Ford was terrible to my family too. Haven't owned one since the early 80's. We had a 1984 Dodge Ram 100 and that lasted 17 years without any real major problem (except the air conditioning went out somewhere in the 10th year). Actually, it still might be around, we sold it in 2000. We had a 1988 Plymouth Voyager, that thing was crappy, treated us bad (also got flooded back in 95). And in 95, the van I used to drive was bought, Nissan Quest. That was a peice of trash (Ford made all of it but the engine -yes they made the transmission and yes it went out... TWICE). Nothing but a money pit. Everything major pretty much went wrong with it, but at least the interior wasn't all that crappy.
We had a 2000 Toyota Tundra, that treated is very well, nothing minor even. It was flooded in Katrina, so we got an 06 and it's even better. My mom has an 03 Honda Odyssee, and it has had a few quality related problems. It feels pretty worn out now when it shouldn't, but then again it has been in 6 accidents none of which actually being at fault. I've had my 06 Toyota Corolla for around 8-9 months now and it's perfect, except for when the fags at an oil change place forgot to put my oil cap back on... The one time I can't do it myself...
The moral of my post: Toyota is the best we've ever owned.

oh yea, well my 95 Mark VIII lasted 204K miles, original engine and tranny, my 84 F150 lasted over 400,000mi on original motor and tranny, and well...so there.
I won't dispute Toyota for their build quality, but my favorite piece of lemony poopie dust was my 1974 Porsche 914. Ran like hell when I first got it, then ran like a bat out of hell when we put in a 1980 911 motor. I loved that car, and now, just thinking about it, I might have to go and buy me another one. It was the car I loved to hate.

Why is it that ford and gm have such crappy warrenties? Even dodge has a better warrenty than them...
heh... my dad's 05 focus came with a 30-some-odd thousand or 3 year warrenty.
its been just over a year and we're on 29,000-30,000 miles. i not sure on the details of the warrenty... but the fact that after another month or so the car won't have a warrenty, imo, is shit. driving less isn't really an option.
im liking some toyotas for my next car.

I'm not saying that chevy and ford are bad, Im just saying their warrenty sucks.... I still say fords 2.3 is on of the best engines ever!!!!!!! And chevy's 350 is a legend in its own right.

Ford didn't make anything for that van. It was assembled in a Ford plant with Nissan parts. The whole van was based on the Maxima powertrain, transmission as well.

I think the Focus had a 100,000 mile warranty on it for a while (2005 year). They're finally extending the warranties, though.
Add the inline sixes of the past to the best engines :) . I'd put an older cast iron straight six against ANYTHING Toyota and Honda have ever made.

My family owns strictly Fords and my brother just finally had a problem with the idler control valve (or something like that) going. Other than that, we really haven't had any problems at all with them. My dad owns an 2004 F-250 SuperDuty, I own a 2003 Ranger std. cab, my brother owns a 2000 Escape, and my mom owns a 2006 Freestar.

how well a car holds up has a lot to do with how well it's taken care of by the owners.
