When you switched the 2 wires you had backwards, and you said it blew the fuse. Were you moving wires around, with it still connected to the battery? Just trying to figure out why it blew the fuse.

Yeah the fuse blew because i didnt unhook the battery. stupid i know. the model is JVC Kdg300. and 1 more thing... when i hook it up backwards the way i had it working, thats when it just turns on for a second and shuts back off. as for the multi-meter i can get one from work tomorrow and i'll try it. What if im not getting the 12v i need? whats wrong then?

um, OK I'm a little confused now. I thought it was turning on/off after you switched the wires? What's the deck doing right now?
Ah OK.
So you either don't have power going to the deck, bad ground, something not hooked up right/tight, or the deck has been damaged.
I would start with checking to make sure you have the 12v where you need it to be. If you don't have the 12v. Double check to make sure none of the fuses in the car have been blown too.
Thanks for that. Im pretty sure i have a blown fuse somewhere because im not getting any power to the hu. I just cant find where it is. Thanks everyone for your help.
sounds like you shorted out your head unit.. when you crossed your wires. you should take it back and get a new one before you cant anymore. and then dont cross anywires this time =)
Sorry to whore your thread. but you must have burnt the face when you crossed them wires.. i have had this problems many of times when i was hooking my shit up hot and i grounded it out.
