so basicaly if you have a bigger HO alternator and it drains it and dips to the batteries the HO alternator needs more jiuce to keep going than a normal alternator would? Or are ya kinda saying the system needs more headroom cause its way to powerful and needs the extra batteries to dip into for power?
kinda in theory but if you didnt have the HO alternator and you had more batteries the alternator couldnt recharge them all in time between peek hits?

Well kind of but your first statement is kind of confusing. The alternator doesn’t use electricity it creates it. His larger alternator can produce more current than a normal alternator would there for it can charge more batteries and power more things. Like a system. Now if your system pulls more current than the alternator can supply it comes from the batteries. And when the system isn’t pulling more current than the system needs it charges the batteries. And yes if you didn’t have a ho alternator and it couldn’t produce enough current to run the system it cant produce enough current to charge the batteries and run the car.imbrognolouis wrote:so basicaly if you have a bigger HO alternator and it drains it and dips to the batteries the HO alternator needs more jiuce to keep going than a normal alternator would? When my car is running with the air on and the radio on but turned all the way down the voltage is 13.93v at idle after it has warmed up. When i turn my truck off my cap reads 12.5v. Oh and i have not taken it to the alt shop but my mechanic did some tests and he said it was reading 13.9 and it was maxing out his voltmeter that read up to 130A at idle. I am going to take it to the alt shop though just to find out for sure. I had all my connections in the back checked and they were all reading 13.7v, all of these readings are with the music all the way down, it is off. But i did not have them check my connections under the hood. The shop that did the install said i need a 2nd batt because the one under the hood is not keeping up. Does this sound right?

If you decide to get another battery, get yourself a deep cycle such as the Optima Yellow Top. Stinger, Odyssey and Kinetik are some other companies that make good deep cycles. I also heard someone talking about the batteries at Walmart doing them well, and those are only about 65$ at my Walmart. Pretty cheap compared to those other ones. Btw, when you're looking at how powerful the battery is, I'm pretty sure you want to look for the amp hour (aH) ratings.
