Sorry not to hijack your thread, but decided to budge in.

I'm in the market for a remote start, two way alarm, so I can see if someone tocuhes my car. Any recommendations?

My local shop quoted $250 just for installation if I bring it in. CircuityCity and BestBuy quoted $200 approximately.

What about you guys?

My shop quoted 200 installed with a compustar alarm, their lowest model tho. I would do it myself, but since I have never done this, I wont even try. No problem askin your Q it's fine. But I don't think it could sense if someone just touches it, or something like that. It would have to be a hard hit or something along the lines of that.

there used to be something like a microwave sensor that would place a "perimeter" around your car so if anyone even breached the perimeter, the alarm would sound. Wasn't very successful though.

My favorite is Viper by DEI. The alarm itself, even with door locks is pretty simple to install. Window roll up modules add a level if difficulty. If you get the complete system with remote start, that's not all that difficult to hook up either. A few primary wires and some slightly trickier secondary wires. All in all, I don't think they're that bad. Just time consuming. You want to test your wires twice and hook them up once. There's nothing worse than having to go back through an install to figure out why something isn't working right. I love doing alarms because so many people are afraid of them. It's definately more challenging than a stereo system. As far as acutal installs go, I prefer alarms just becuase they are more challenging. Intsalling a deck or a deck and pair of speakers gets old fast. Putting in the amp and prefab sub box is lame too. But alarms with all the bells and whistles ... good stuff.

Theres a company called AstroStart... they make remote starters, but incorporate Alarm and Keyless entry modules. Basically, a complete 2-way system.

They have double the range of DEI products (Viper, Python, etc..) at 2000ft. and also, offer LED remotes. The LED remote has a much longer battery life than LCD... but they do offer both types. The systems feature a lifetime warranty when installed by a dealer, and pricewise, you can't beat this stuff.

Their site is here - http://www.astroflex.com/index.php?module=CMS&id=15

Here's my suggestion...

Stay FAR away from BestBuy or CircuitCity. Find a good, trustworthy shop with an installer whos been at it for 15yrs or so. Alarms/Starters are something worth having done right... trust me, it ain't much fun when they screw up.

Yah I figured I'd probably go to the shop.
