Yeah man I really wouldn’t go with a prefab box. Although they may be cheaper, you really won’t get the full potential out of the subs…not even close to the full potential. I would just get someone that knows what they are doing and make you a box. You sure as hell won’t regret it.

"If you go ported its almost like adding 1 more sub... But it comes at a cost of SQ."
Not necessarily. A well designed ported box can surpass a sealed box in SQ dependant upon your goals. $20,000 home audio manufacturers don't use ported boxes just for the hell of it. Depends on your definition of SQ. As far as group delay and transient response, sealed is the better performer. As far as low distortion output and low end extension, that goes to ported. Ported also has the capability to provide better damping at resonance, and a flatter response at Fs compared to the high distortion peakiness that a sealed box experiences at Fc.

Well if you want to get all technical.
But the chances of any of us OR that Prefab box maker to put the time, effort and research into attaining such things is null.
Just not going to happen.
Thats why in laymens terms we just say Sealed has a better SQ.

go with ported.
by accurate, Ryan means flat, and very few people like a flat curve with subs. The reason most people have subs is to get plenty of bass anyway, and ported gives you more bass at the tuned frequency.. it's like free power in a sense.
forget sealed unless you're only after sound quality and not a lot of bass, or unless the Qts of your subs demands going sealed for ideal performance, which yours don't.

PS. have the box built for you. forget the prefab garbage.

IMO a low tuned ported enclosure sounds good depending on the sub of course. The Alpine Type R's tend to perform better in ported enclosures anyways. 2.5 cubes per 12 tuned to 32hz if you want a loud box with plenty of lowend and the ability to maintain decent SQ

a slot port will do nicely but also an areo port is really nice but usually cost more. id deffintly have justin build you a box or do it your self prefabs pretty much suck ass.
