The reason "bass focus" is a separate one (and listed first on the menu ) is because 99% of the time, the subwoofer is the farthest speaker away from you. Applying delay to IT would only make it sound even farther away.
To make it sound closer, you need to delay the rest of the speakers instead... essentially a "negative delay" on the sub, if you will. It'll fire before the rest of the speakers will.

If you don't do any left/right bias on it - this is one delay you can apply without disturbing the soundstage on the passenger side (if that is a concern to you).
