Rebuild or replace?

You think rebuilding an American Motor is expensive, try building up a European (BMW) engine. My cam alone cost me 500 bux and my 4 pistons were over 600 i believe. Not to mention all the other little shit i bought/replaced like valves, guides, rocker shafts and the like.

Since you already have a new car, just part out this one Ryan. Try and make a car payment or 2 off of the parts.

Well the G/F doesnt have a car.

I have a fair amount of money tied into this car.

If I can get it on the road again for $200-500 and do the work myself when I have time its worth it.

Hell its got new tires, new brakes and a 63K miles trans... May aswell. Be the best $200-500 car she will ever get/see...

I think there is a reason why a shop would charge like probly 2K to do something like swap heads on this car.... be prepared to put in some serious hours on this one... good luck!

On another note, I'd do some tests to find what's wrong before you tear into it...I think gaskets alone to put that stuff back together is gonna be over $100 easily. What actually is wrong with it? It won't start and you think you have something warped or cracked is all I caught. I think overheating an engine would probly more likely blow a head gasket or something.

Ok current situation with the Buick...

The heads were indeed warped.

I replaced the heads, head gaskets, intake gaskets, spark plugs, wires.

The car runs but there is a tick to it. Never had that before...

Im chatting with the guys on the 60degreev6 forums trying to resolve the issue. Its currently getting diagnosed as bearing knock. Basicly rust on the crankshaft and its wearing at the bearings... Kinda sucks as I just quit my job at a crankshaft manufacturing facility...

try putting a half of a quart of tranny fluid in the motor. if its a lifter noise it might clear it right up. it also helps clean the motor.

Will I need to change oil and oil filter right away?

Any quick fix is worth a shot IMHO... Afterall Im running Dollar General Oil and an Advance Auto Oil Filter...lol

my car ticks too, i dont know if its anything serious, mine did it since i bought it at 92000 i dislike how you rev the engine and let off and it sounds like its farting/shitting its pants.

It's not possible to just say what it is from your description but it could be lifter noise? If this is the what it is, it's probly because of neglected oil changes or let oil get too low. Some minor lifter noise could go away if ya change the oil when supposed to for a while now but not likely to completely go away. My friend's F-150 had some nasty lifter noise when he got it but is quieter now... not gone though.
