yes, use 1000

Ok Bill on to your reply.

In my car I set everything using an o-scope. I use a 0 db1000 Hz test tone and set everything in the signal chain to for 0 clipping.

Then i set my amps using a -5db tone. This gives me around 4.9 dbs more output over a 0 db tone, yet keeps my clipping below an average of .3% (unauditable)

Oh and FYI, a -10db tone will give you around a 9.4 db gain overlap, but your clipping will be around 3% (rarely audiable to most listeners).

Sure alot of us would notice it, but were far from your normal bass heads.

so should I use a 0db tone or a -3db tone for the best results? I want to avoid clipping.

In your situation stick with the 0. Without an o-scope you won't be able to tell if your decks output is clipping.

If it is, and you set the gains at a higher point (-3db) then your way more likely to clip the input and output stages on your amp.
