Good component speakers below 60 RMS?

Post by jjohan35 »

Hi folks,

This is a question out of curiosity more than anything. I notice that all the top speaker companies produce component sets that are rated well over 100 rms per channel. I'm wondering if there's a such thing as high quality (SQ wise) component speakers that don't require that much power... say 60 rms or less? Thanks.

You can give 100 rms speakers 60 rms. I just wouldn't go under half a speaker's rated power. You can run into distortion much easier that way if you do.

I would look at 75 rms components or so if I were you. It sounds like you have an amp that is less than 60 rms.

It's a question out of curiosity in case I decide to build a low budget system with a 50 rms per channel amp.

Answer for your budget SQ question:
Fusion Encounter Series components...
EN-CM65 6.5" Components = 70w rms

EN-CM525 5.25" Components = 50w rms
These are Fusions entry level speakers, but still at low power provide an ideal sound on a budget :)

I've never heard of Fusion. I was thinking of Phoenix Gold RSD 6.5 components. They have 60 watt rms.

I really used to love PG but they went to shit... I doubted Fusion until I got a set of the powerplant 6.5, I'd really like to hear the PP and NV subs now.

The powerplant components 6.5" seem like a small powering set too (60 RMS). The powerplant series look more attractive to me because of their softer tweeter materials. Their other two series use metal tweeters.

How much do they cost generally?

The PowerPlants are definately a better solution than the Encounter Series... I just mentioned the Encounter because they are the cheapest (budget oriented) set that Fusion has.
Here's the retail prices (MSRP) for the sets:
Encounter 5.25" (ENCM525) $99.95
Encounter 6.5" (ENCM65) $109.95
PowerPlant 5.25" (PPCM525) $159.95
Powerplant 6.5" (PPCM65) $169.95
NV Series 5.25" (NVCM525) $244.95
NV Series 6.5" (NVCM65) $264.95
So even at retail Fusion isn't outlandishly priced on any of their sets, But we all know that nobody sells for retail... So if you're interested in actual prices hit me up with a PM ;)

I'll get in contact with you if I upgrade my gf's car.

How do the Arc Audio components compare? Seems like they have three different lines.
