Pioneer Premier DEH-P880PRS... any alternate choices?
I really like the 880PRS and am planning on making that my next HU for my Camry...
I dont like it cause its shiny metal or anything but mostly i think its great that it has the Burr Brown DAC's in it. I am making my Camry mostly a SQ car so it is important for the cleanest sound possible... Basically i want to make my Camry sound better than my mothers Lexus Rx300 with the Nakamichi system in it.... Any way are there any less expensive alternatives to this HU.
As most know im a big supporter of the Pioneer and Premier lines so i would love to stick with Pioneer but if there is a better unit out there for them money i would prefer to know about it and check it out.

I just put in a P880PRS in my truck since my CD8454 stopped reading CDs. I'm really happy with it. The only thing I don't like about it is the menus for the active xovers, T/A, EQ, etc. They're a pain in the ass to navigate, even when you know how to navigate them. I like the feature with MP3 CDs where it'll bring up a menu of the folders on the CD and then the songs in that folder when you click on it.
Somehow, I got the system sounding a little better with this one (I'm guessing because of the T/A, it does all the pathlengths FOR YOU). I'm still having some problems with the midbass/sub sounding perfect, but this has EQ down to 21.5hz. Pretty cool if you ask me.
I'll get some pics up when I get a chance.
The only other HUs that offer these features are the Clarion DRZ9255, Eclipse CD7100 (CD5100 has active xovers, but no T/A, I think) and I think Alpine's higher units.

The Alpine iDA-X001 offers 24 bit DAC's and is moderately priced around the same amount if i go through Ebay for it... But i dont know what kind of DAC they use... unfortunately that is not disclosed... I think ill shoot them an Email to find out...
I really do like that ALpine even more so than the Pioneer... ouch hard for me to say that lol but its true

i have an 880prs.. i love it.. and no, it isnt that shiny as they show them online, they only look like that because of them big white things they use in photo shoots id assume.. it has TONS of features.. another good choice would be the Premier 860.. i know that on Caraudio.com theres a bunch going for like $250 shipped!.. so check them out.. i got mine on Ebay for $205, but the internal amp didnt work, but ohwell.. all amp'd setup FTW!
here is a pic of my 880prs:
also, the "shiny" parts you do see are just sun coming in through the tree's
