And this started after you installed your stereo?A college kid wrote:I just finished installing my system the other day, Kicker CompVR 12s and Kicker 750.1 amp, and only messed with the wires attached to my receiver. Now, everytime I get out of the car my dome light and other interior lights stay on, no matter if I turn them off or not. Sometimes they will shut off when I start the car and drive around, but I park it and the lights come back on. I drive an 1993 Grand Prix, does anyone know how to fix this problem? Anyone with some help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. I don't want to have to jump my car every morning to enjoy my music.
Check and make sure the illumination wire that normally dims your radio didnt accidently get wired to the constant wire on your radio in turn feeding back up through your switch and leaving your lights on...
I dont know if it could actually happen like that, but it could be possible.... leave me alone im tired.

bad connection
Manufacturer, Make and Model of vehicle?A college kid wrote:Okay, i'll check the door pins out in the morning, thanks chris. I'm also gonna pull my cd player back out, as well as remove the lower half of my dash, to access all the wiring and look for a possible short. hopefully its something easily fixable, i appreciate all the help.
most likely you have done 1 of 2 things:
a) you have somehow contracted "sticky door pin" disease. depending on your vehicle it could be a separate door pin located near the hinge assembly or it could be integral to the latch itself.
b) you have managed to somehow feed current back into a wire that is not usually hot. For example, I could easily see how tapping into the wrong wire while looking for a remote turn on lead could cause your lights to stay on.
I suggest triple checking all of your connections (I assume you've double checked already :) and make sure that the wires you've tapped into are really the wired you think they are!

93 Pontiac Grand Prix...sounds good, i'll go check the wires again :) even if the remote turn on was connected to the wrong wire, wouldn't the lights just stay on when the car was running? wouldn't they still power off normally when the car was off? Scott and mobileaudio...alright, i'll go check the turn on and all the dimming/power/light connections. i just removed the bulbs from my door lights and the dome light, so now the only lights that stay on constantly are those under the dash lighting the footwells.DouglasABaker wrote:Manufacturer, Make and Model of vehicle?

Get a dmm and check the wiring to the dimmer module
No - there is a secondary circuit that detects if the vehicle is running and if it is it turns the lights off.A college kid wrote:93 Pontiac Grand Prix...sounds good, i'll go check the wires again :) even if the remote turn on was connected to the wrong wire, wouldn't the lights just stay on when the car was running?
If you were feeding power back into the circuit for some reason (if you accidentally crossed the power with the dimmer line, for example) it would cause the lights to stay on all the time.wouldn't they still power off normally when the car was off?
You should specifically check the gray (I think) wire in your wiring harness - that is the output from the dimmer that normally controls the fading of lights on the dash and the interior lights. If you were somehow feeding power into that line it would cause the problems you are having.
The only way to tell for certain is to get a multimeter and check the voltage in each line of the dimmer switch. With the car off and the dimmer in the off position, 1 wire should be hot, another ground, and a 3rd dead (I believe your dimmer a 4th that likely goes to the dash lights) that leads to a relay or the interior lights. You'll need to disconnect your hu/amp power to perform this test. Once you've identified the dead line, put the fuse back in for your hu/amp and check it again. If it shows power then you have a crossed line and you need to track it down...
Hope this helps...
