Subs not hitting in sync.

Is there such a thing as having too much mounting depth? My subs call for 6 5/16'' mounting depth, and my box has between 9 1/2-10" of mounting depth.

No. the speakers instructed mounting depth only there to tell you what is required to actually mount the subs... what matters most is that the box is built to specs for proper tuning of the subs, this does not always account for the direct shape of the enclosure.

I'm going to blame the box, maybe it's not the right specs for the subs I have. The place I bought it said it was the same as my old box, I had the probably 03 version of the kicker comp vrs in the subzone/orion vented box where the subs go in from each end. He told me it's the same box but built dif. maybe it's tuned way off for my subs? I can play something that has good bass for about 5 minutes, and then I get the burning smell........I'm trying to get ahold of subzone to see if they have a box that matches up to the subzone/orion box.

Can anyone give me the specs the box would need to be, I need depth, length and width, as well as the vent size. I'm just trying to figure if thats the prob. I was reading that if the box is too small I can add some polyfill to help out with that. Anyone?

From everything I've came up with I would need a slotted port that is either 2.5" x 12.5" for the opening and 20" for depth........or for spl..3.0"x12.5" opening and 20.5" depth. The port on the box I have is only 14" deep.......I think if it was longer I would get more of the sound I'm looking for.

Okay what tuning do you guys recommend.....I was thinking between 30-33hz because the box I have now is 40hz and it doesn't hit very low at all.

Um, burning voice coils? Sending a clipped signal to them or way too much power?

The amp I have pushes 1100 watts max..........I only have the gain 1/4 the way up.......the bass boost is down almost all the way.....they are 800 watt a piece subs......rms is 400....so together rms is 800 for both of them.....must be clipping? 32hz sounds good.....what about 30? I found a nice subzone box at 30hz.
