FI forum for port help

Post by subster87 »

i changed this thread around because looking at what scott suggests for the ports on my sub i dont need 2 six inch ports or 5 4 inch ports. I simply need 3 four inch ports to meet the high end of what he suggests for port to box volume ratio. So thats what im gonna do. Who knows the subs better right??? I want to thank fishy for all his help you really got the ball rolling in the right direction thanks alot. :thumbsup

o yeah i need opinions bill yours is crucial as my spl genious lol. Which will sound better i can put the sub anywhere on the false floor. I would prefer not in the middle... So im gonna either go all the way up by the seat facing straight up or all the way back by the trunk lide facing up. I want to do either or in order to perserve some usable trunk space this time around!!

ur best bet is to keep the sub as far back from the trunk wall as possible. gives more room for the air exiting the ports. with 7-8cf you need quite a large port. if you go with aeros simple easy and accurate there gonna be more expensive. but there far easier to use and change.

using the wheel well for the added room gave me 3-4 extra cubic feet i havent done the exact math. I have alot of 3 inch pvc like 10 feet worth i was gonna use that

ok so amount and size of ports, one six inch aero port? 2-3 fours? or 3-4 3 inch ports? the will be facing back so i really wont hear the port noise but which is my best bet as fair as displacement lose for my box size and performance? Im leaning toward the 1 six inch

i would have to say 4 4" aeros. Most higher end 15's want atleast 2 4" aero's and the only good install of an 18" that i have seen used 4 4" aeros.

since you're essentially copying what I did with my Q in my car, I can tell you this.
the Q peforms ideally in a sealed enclosure, and if you insist on using ports, you'll want a 6" ID port, not 3" ports, unless you really like port whistle.

there inst much difference between multiple ports of smaller size compared to one port of larger size other than the drag created by more surface area of more ports. but i think thats negligible.

its not neccasarily that i insist on it. I have used the sub in a six foot sealed and a six foot ported. I felt it performed much much better in the ported but thats just my taste. This box is gonna be well over 8 feet now that i have the plans goin on it. I just started my first layer of glass today. Only got 8 cubic feet of glass down on it, lol barely covered the wheel well floor.
