Need help choosing, im stuck.

Post by npcout »

I am looking to get a new sub. I have actually 3 12inch subs at the moment but there all crappy. I have 2 12's the duals, and then an alpine type E. I wanted to get 1 single 12in sub that would outpower those three together and sound better, in terms of quality and hit harder..

I was looking into the power acoustik mofo, and i was also looking at the kicker l5. Anybody have any suggestions. I dont wana spend a ton of money on something like a JL.

BTW, looking to run about anywhere from 600-800 RMS to it.

Thanks a lot!

How much are you looking to spend??

I havent used a Mofo before, so cant really comment on that. I wouldn't go for a Kicker L5 though. A kid i know has an L7, it gets decently loud, but better can be had for the money.

With 600-800rms, i would highly suggest a Fi Audio SSD http://www.ficaraudio.com
They are a relatively new company, but the owner came from RE Audio which is a very very excellent company. The SSD's will get plenty loud for ya, no doubt, and will murder those 3 subs you are running now. One thing, if you can, I would run a 15" sub if you are doing a single sub to get the most out of a single sub setup.

I agree with Mike (swimmerdude) on the 15" and the Mofo's are decent enough, but better can be had... what's your budget?

It might be hard to get one 12" louder then those three tho, just to let you know. Ya those are all entry level subs, but thats a lot of cone area you're giving up by going to one 12", Could look into a single 15... But with a box designed well for your new sub, you should get plenty loud with one 12". Look into type R's, or Kicker CVR's great bang for the buck if your wanting to go with a place like ebay.

But if you're wanting to spend some money I'd go with the FI sub too.
