speaker problem.
every speaker in my truck sounds like crap when i put the volume at around 20 (20 out of 35). i dont even wanna mention how bad it sounds with bass turned up... well im not sure if they all sounded like crap with the stock head unit in the car, but i know that the head unit was replaced with a decent pioneer head unit(35 x 4 watts) that Sound advice installed, but they never replaced the speakers.
so, i went out and bought 2 new speakers (sony xplode 6.5 in. 4 way coaxial speakers, 220 max 45 rms) and put them in the kicker panels, and they sounded like **** along with all the other speakers in my car. (i have 2 front speakers and 2 back speakers along with 2 tweeters in the front.)
i do have an amplifier hooked up to the car now(165 x 2) but right now im concerned on getting the speakers to run decently with the head unit that i have.
I dont even know what to do at this point... could someone please let me know what i should do?
any replies greatly appreciated. thanks.

so you have them off the head unit? firstly the sonys are not that good a speaker and running 6 speakers off the head unit is going to really tax the internal amp quite a bit, cause it to run hot and probably increase the distortion. also do you have any bass blockers installed at the head unit for the speakers? i see these installed at the head unit instead of at the speakers and it causes what you are complaining about to happen.....it also sounds like you have too much going on......2 front speakers, 2 rear speakers, 2 tweeters and now a pair of speakers in the kick panels? at the very least you need a 4 channel amp to start to clear things up, you said you have a 2 channel right? what kind is it? 165x2 is a hell of a lot of power for the speakers you are describing.........

You cant run 6 speakers off the head unit, so forget about that idea.
And why does it sound so bad? My guess is the speakers are out of phase.
Someone will probably call BS on this, but here it goes. One time I had this Alpine HU and had it wired up to 4 speakers, sounded like crap. Turns out the one speaker was out of phase. At that point in time I figured it made the radio act funny, but now I know better. That one speaker out of phase canceled out the others, or drew your attention to it- creating a misconception...

I have to agree with Ryan, your running into phasing issues. It could be from a speaker wired wrong, or it could be from running to many speakers with each at a diffrent distance fom your head.

Oh and, do your radio a favor, cut back on the speakers before the internal amp goes up in smoke.

alright you think this solve this problem,
running like maybe the tweeters and 6.5 in speakers in the front. (4 speakers) off of 1 165 watt channel?and running just the back off the head unit? im gunna have to get new front speakers anywayz...
and all the speakers are stock speakers, (besides the 2 in the kicker panels that i replaced)

i know 165 is a lil much for 2 6.5 inch speakers, but what if i added the tweeters? would that kinda evenly distribute and reduce the power going to the speakers? how should i go about wiring this? just hook them all strait to one channel? (kinda looking to get a sub later so trying to save that channel 4 the sub.)
This is gonna sound stupid (maybe), but is that 165w x 2 Max or rms... just wondering cause if you're thinking 165w max is to much for speakers, not even close... and is that 165w @ 4ohm, 2ohm or what.
I guess basically what I'm asking is... what amp is it? Nobody has asked that yet.

165 rms at 2 channels.
sony xplod 2-channel 1000 watt amplifier xm1652z
and yes i know sony products are HORRIBLE, but its what i have =)
I got 2 much power... is there some kind of way to reduce the power? some kind of resistance?
right now im only running tweeters and the back speakers off the head unit and they still sound bad. ill put my ear up to each and every speaker and they sound horible. i did hook my amplifier 2 my front 2 speakers and tried not to play it too loud and they sounded way better, but when i started to turn them up they blew... which thats fine i dont want to have them sony's anyways, but i dont wanna blow up another speaker =P.
ok so amplified speakers sound fine. and if i can amplify the speakers (using 1 165 rms channel) id be fine.
now im no expert on car audio or anything, but what if i hooked up the left speaker and tweeter up in a series connection to the amplifier, and then do the same on the other side, hook it up to 1 channel.
any way(orany other way) that i would be able to do this?
if not what 6.5 inch speakers can handle my kinda power?
