Hi everyone looking for some help

Post by gunslinger686 »

Sure i'm a newb and yes i used the search thingy with no luck :sad017: .

I have a 02 toyota tacoma 4door pickup .I recently replaced the head unit w/t a kenwood and still have factory door speakers 5x7s i think, sounds alot better with the new head unit .I like to jam on primus ,korn, pink floyd,zepplen,ac/dc mettalica ,you know rock/ metal type stuff so i don't need 15's w/t 100000000000000000 watt's but i do want a lil more bass. What i want to know is what door speakers and sub and amp combo do i need for the type of music i like? For a sub i was thinking something like a ALPINE PLV-7 AMPLIFIED SUBWOOFER (so i could recover my rear seat if needed) or do i need a custom box w/t one 10-12 :help: I'M LOST :happy055:

THAX FOR YOUR HELP,,,CW

I would sugest a nice 10 or 12, and a 6.5 component set for the front. Brand doesn't really matter (as long as the equipment is reliable, and sounds good to you.)

A more SQ oriented 10 or 12 is what you are going to want. I havent heard that powered Alpine sub, so i cant comment on that. With a 5x7 hole, you can get 5.25 speaker adapters. I'm telling you this because round speakers are much better than oval shaped ones. Speakers are really a perference thing. So go travel around to some audio shops in your area and listen to as many speakers as you can. Components IMO would be a better option because they have more mounting ability for better imaging(seperate tweeter). To power all this, a 4-channel amp would be easiest. The 2 front channels for your front speakers and the rear 2 channels bridged for a sub.

A price range would help a lot to reccommend you to what fits your bill.

Ascendant Audio puts out some good sq subs that are not very power hungry and maintain a very good sound over all... Assassins are what i would go with... If you want to maintain your rear seats you could have someone build you a box that will act as a center console in the rear... thats what I am doing in my buddy Tacoma... he has an 01 I think with the extended cab... if u need any ideas I can definitely help you

I would go with some Diamond Audio Component 5.25's in the doors... I never really liked the sound of the factory Tweeters in the Tacoma's. the rears speakers are not too bad but im pretty sure that he just blew out one of them last week...

I never really cared much for the whole self powered units... and in many cases you can get a seperate amp/ sub combo to perform much better.
Give us an idea of what your looking to spend and we can get you pointed in the right direction.

I can't say I can vouch for crystal. I would look at the good, bad, and ugly list and get an idea of brands you can trust. Then go out and listen to as many brands as you can. IMO thats really the only GOOD way to pick out a component set.

I read about Crystal being a good company and all, but I havent heard them, so I cant comment on them. But really, unless you want to do some trimming on your mounting hole or fabbing up an adapter, you are not going to be able to fit a 6.5" component set in there. I know you can fit 5.25" component sets in 5x7 holes.

If you have $400 to work with and you are spending half that on components.... you are going to need a bigger budget. And if you are looking to have someone install everything.... you are really going to have to up your budget. Places are not cheap about installing equipment you bring to them, so I think you might be better off installing it yourself. There are a ton of resources here to figure out how to install everything and everyone in here will be gladly to answer any questions you have to help you along the way.

You can check to see if Smoker has the component speakers he was selling from here... http://www.caraudiocentral.net/forums/s ... php?t=5985 still. If will definitely save you a lot of money if you are working on a small budget.

^I'll second on what swimmer said.
1) Check and see if smoker still has those 5.25" components (big time money saver)
2) Where are you located... One of us dealers on here might be able to get you some decent deals on Fusion if you're in our market.
3) There is definatly no better way to learn the "How To" for car audio than to do it yourself (helps later on if you come across any problems too) ;)
